Property Portfolio Assessment Guide
Counts of assessed parishes across four categories. Scores range from 0 to 100.
Asset ≥ 70 · Moderate 40–69 · Challenge < 40
- Property Conditions
- Evaluates the extent of property maintenance and improvement needs. An asset score reflects a well-maintained property with proactive deferred maintenance planning. A challenge score prompts industry-expert evaluation of major building systems.
- Financial Capacity
- Considers attendance trends relative to plate offerings, pledges, reserves, endowments, and outstanding debt. A challenge score prompts a budget and property audit to identify strategic opportunities for long-term financial sustainability.
- Congregational Spirit
- Reflects the internal spiritual life of the parish: clarity of mission, spiritual formation, justice engagement, openness to change, stewardship, and organizational transparency. A challenge score prompts a review with the designated Ministry Companion.
- Community Connectedness
- Reflects external engagement with the broader community, assessing whether local context shapes parish programming and congregational involvement. A challenge score prompts guidance for strengthening local community relationships.
- Property Adaptability
- Screens each property for its potential to support alternative or shared uses. Combines five weighted factors — site and land, zoning flexibility, building flexibility, site accessibility, and regulatory constraints — into a 0–100 score, classified as High (≥ 70), Moderate (40–69), or Low (< 40). A low score doesn’t mean a property is without value — it signals where more planning or investment will be needed before alternative uses become feasible.
- High ≥ 70 · Moderate 40–69 · Low < 40
